10 Reasons Why You Need to Switch to LED Lighting

napolean_revolutionAs part of our #LEDrevolution, we've taken a moment to look at the brilliant features LED lighting offers. There are so many benefits its hard to see why anybody wouldn't want to join the LED revolution and switch over!

See our list of the top ten reason below...

1. Save the planet from global warming

Lighting amounts to 19% percent of total global electricity production, that's as much energy than all the worlds gas power stations combined and more than the total energy produced by hydro or nuclear power plants, this number is rising rapidly every day as more and more people in the developing world gain access to the electricity grid.

All this electricity produces an staggering 1,900 Million tons of CO2 emissions per year (70% of global vehicle usage) and as we all know carbon emissions are the primary contributor to global warming and reduction of the polar ice caps.

A brighter future with LED lighting...

It has been calculated that if the world switched over to LED lighting tomorrow we could wipe an incredible 670 Million tons of carbon emissions from the total lighting output every year!

This represents over a third of the total carbon emissions for all lighting and with the biggest efficiencies found in home lighting its down to you to do your bit and start reducing your home energy consumption by switching to LED lighting.

2. Save bundles of cash every month

By using incandescent light bulbs you are literally throwing money away every month when the electricity bill comes in. With the average energy bill for a UK household coming in at £1,345 annually and lighting accounting for £242 (18%) of that its easy to see electricity is no longer a cheap commodity.

LED light bulbs use just a fraction of the energy it takes to light a traditional light bulb so so by switching to LED you stand to shave between 80%-90% of your lighting bill. That's up to £200 per year for the average UK household.

Our customers regularly report savings between £10 - £30 every month from their energy bill.

3. LED light bulbs that last forever

LED light bulbs are built to last, using solid state technology to emit brilliant light means there is no filament to burn out or chemical gases to escape, the result is an incredible life span with most lamps claiming anywhere between a 30,000 to 50,000 hour lifespan, that's over 17 years for the average household.

Compared to a traditional incandescent lamp with an average 1,000 hour lifespan the advantages are obvious.

4. Cool Runnings...

Up to 90% of the energy used to power an LED light bulb is channeled directly into emitting light compared to just 20% with an incandescent lamp, the rest of the energy is lost as it is converted into heat.

So not only is LED lighting incredible efficient it also operates at much cooler temperatures making them incredibly safe to use in the home, say goodbye to burnt fingers when switching bulbs and forget about burn marks on glass lighting fixtures.

5. Perfect dimming color

An often overlooked feature to LED lighting is their near perfect dimming range, when a dimmable LED lamp is used in conjunction with a compatible dimmer unit (we reccomend the varilight v-pro) the light temperature will remain consistant through out the dimming range, unlike halogen or incandescent lights where the light color becomes warmer on lower dimmer ranges.

6. Quiet as a mouse

A properly installed LED lamp from LEDStop will emit absolutely no noise even when used on a dimmer circuit, so if you're fed up with the annoying buzz and flickering of fluorescent and halogen lamps then make the switch today.

7. Environmentally safe production

Unlike fluorescent lamps which use mercury and other noxious gases the materials used in the LED light bulb production process are completely environmentally friendly, meaning they are as safe to our environment as a Casio watch!

8. Ultraviolet free lighting

A little known fact about traditional incandescent and halogen lamps is that they give off small amount of ultra violet light, UV light is harmful to our skin, causes strain on the eyes, headaches and has the unpleasant effect of attracting bugs and insects.

The LED lamps that we stock at LEDStop do not emit any UV light meaning you can keep your windows open in the evenings this summer without attracting half the garden into the house!

9. LED lights are tough as Arnold Schwarzenegger

Built to last with no glass and moving parts LED lights are incredibly robust. The majority are built from solid composite plastics making the lamps relatively lightweight and very tough.

If you're a tradesman you can handle them carefree whilst you're on a building site and if you drop one (within reason) it won't break.

10. LED light bulbs are easy to fit

Fitting an LED lamp in your home couldn't be simpler, recent advances in technology means there is an LED lamp to directly replace almost any existing incandescent or halogen lighting lamp available, built to resemble their traditional counterparts the LEd lamps will fit directly into the majority of existing light fitting with no re-wiring involved
