The essential points to consider when buying wall light fittings
Wall lights are an excellent way of adding general ambient light into areas of your home where the ceiling is lower not accessible, hallways, porches and outdoor areas typical examples of this. Wall lights are also great at accenting features in a room such as portraits, mirrors and other objects
When fitting wall lights in import to consider where on the wall they will be placed. as a general rule a series of wall lights should never be close than 6 inches to each other, they should also be fitted above eye level in order to prevent glare but not so high they are inaccessible - 2 meters from the floor is good place to start.
Try to consider how your wall lighting will compliment any ceiling lighting you may have in place, generally aim for brighter ceiling lights and the wall lights will add a nice touch of ambient light giving the room great depth.

Wall Light Sconces
A wall sconce can be a general term for a wall light fitting but in it purest form it refers to fixture attached to the wall with a single arm with the lamp covered with glass or a shade
Flush / Recessed Wall Sconces
These low profile sconces sit flush against the wall and will often wash light up the wall, generally subtle and unobtrusive they are great at providing ambient lighting in hallways and staircases.
Wall Lighting Torchieres
Similar to a wall sconce a torchiere is attached to the wall with a single bracket but the base of the fitting will tail off into a torch shape.
Candle Wall Light Sconces
Originally used in the days before electricity these would have been used to hold candles for, these days you will find they hold lamps but they still retain a very traditional feel.
Wall Lanterns
Typically used outdoors, they can be hung from a fixed bracket or sometimes mounted directly on the wall. They range in style from traditional and rustic to contemporary and sleek.
